ARCHER EXPERIMENTAL PERFORATION (SG16b) 1d. Red-brown PAIR PL.96 LETTERED P-K - P-L MATCHEDWITH 1d. IMPERFS (SG8). A fine to very fine used 1850 Archer 1d. Plate 96 HORIZONTAL PAIR lettered P-K P-L centred slightly N.W., cancelled London '29' Inland Office corner letters matched with 1d. Imperfs - both 4 margins. As you may expect - PAIRS OF ARCHER PERFORATION PRINTINGS ARE RARE, in our opinion a 100% premium therefore estimated catalogue value up to £2,400+. It is lovely to see the matching corner lettering perfectly researched (4v.)

QV 1851 2d. Violet-blue Pl.4. Superb used four margin example letters J-A on thicker lavender-tinted paper, with part left-hand sheet margin inscription and large part adjoining stamp at right. Neatly cancelled by Derry '172' numeral canceller. As Stanley Gibbons retail card accompanying states 'an exceptional example of this rare shade'. Without exageration this is the finest example of this stamp that we have ever handled in some 50 years trading. The thicker lavender tinted paper is rare and this is an exceptional premium example with pronounced tint, and that's not factoring in the part marginal inscription. Gibbons original selling price £2,250= (unsurprisingly) is near double the current basic £1,200= SG catalogue price. Accompanied by clear Brandon 2006 photo-certificate. Exhibition Standard. Superb. GEM (1v. + SG retail card, Brandon 2006 Cert.)
Concise (2026) catalogue £1,200=

1d. Black, plate 1a intense black shade horizontal strip of 4 letters P-I, P-J, P-K, P-L, Lightly cancelled red maltese cross tied to original wrapper transit: DONCASTER FE 9 1841 to Bromley Common fine red receiving cancels wrapper flap will open to display on one album page illustratimg all transits. Google internet research immediately locates: George Warde Norman (1793 - 1882) Born 30 Sep 1793 in Bromley Common, Kent, England Died 1882 at about age 88 in Bromley, Kent, England. (Apparently a writer on finance), we suspect there may be more to research. The wrapper must have included something more substantial to require a strip of x 4 1d. Blacks. Thw strip itself is interesting, almost complete 4 margin - 3 being good to large margins and absent filing crease. We suspect the strip has been lifted at some stage perhaps to test removal / reduction of red maltese cross cancels with P-I & P-L good to huge margins. Further research justified. What is the connection between Doncaster and George Warde Norman? Intense black strips of 4 (re-married to original wrapper) must be exceptionally rare. Bearing in mind that a 1d. Black block of 4 off cover catalogues £18,000 we would respectfully suggest that this strip on wrapper may command similar catalogue value. Research could not locate a similar standard entire/wrapper for sale. Consequently, whoever acquires this valuable wrapper may continue research as part of the story. Obviously UNIQUE.
